According to Polimer News, the Thoothukudi police have issued a formal statement addressing allegations surrounding the death of a young man named Arunachalam, who passed away after being taken into custody. The family of the deceased has alleged that he suffered fatal head injuries due to physical assault by police officers during his detention. In response, authorities have released CCTV footage which they claim shows the individual collapsing on his own while in custody.

Police officials stated that Arunachalam was initially arrested on July 17 during a prohibition enforcement operation, where he was allegedly found in possession of 120 bottles of illicit liquor. According to the police, the arrest process was documented with video evidence, and formal written notification was provided to the family members as per standard procedure. The department maintains that the individual was handled according to legal protocols following his apprehension.

Furthermore, the police report indicates that on the evening of July 17, at approximately 5:50 PM, Arunachalam was transported to the Thoothukudi Government Medical College Hospital for a mandatory health screening. The authorities claim that the medical examination found no external injuries and certified that he was in good physical health at that time. The investigation into the circumstances of his subsequent death remains ongoing, with the police providing these details to counter the claims of custodial violence.
