According to the Odia news outlet Dharitri, former Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee president and former minister Jaydev Jena held a press conference in Anandapur on August 1 to criticize the state government and the Water Resources Department. The conference followed a breach in the Anandapur ring embankment, which led to significant flooding in the region.

During the briefing, Jena alleged negligence in the maintenance and construction of the embankment. He claimed that the infrastructure, which he stated was developed through his efforts in 1998 to protect areas including Anandapur, Fakirpur, Bancho, and Panchugochhia, had failed due to a lack of proper oversight by current authorities. He demanded accountability from the state government regarding the disaster.

The breach has caused distress among local residents, prompting political leaders to seek explanations for the structural failure. While the state government has yet to issue a formal response to these specific allegations, the incident has highlighted ongoing concerns regarding flood management and infrastructure integrity in the Anandapur region during the monsoon season.
