According to Public TV, police in Chamarajanagar have arrested a 27-year-old man for the illegal sale of pangolin scales. The suspect, identified as Mahesh Nayaka H, was apprehended near Doddabetta, located in the vicinity of Heggothara village in Chamarajanagar taluk. Authorities from the CID Forest Mobile Squad conducted the operation, which resulted in the seizure of 2.8 kilograms of pangolin scales.

In addition to the illicit wildlife products, officials recovered four country-made firearms, a motorcycle, and various accessories used for the maintenance and operation of the weapons. The arrest highlights ongoing efforts by local law enforcement to curb wildlife trafficking and the illegal possession of unlicensed firearms in the region. Pangolins are protected species under Indian wildlife conservation laws, and the trade of their scales is strictly prohibited due to their status as an endangered animal.

The suspect is currently in police custody as the investigation into the source of the scales and the intended market for the contraband continues. Local authorities have indicated that they are examining whether the individual was part of a larger poaching network operating within the forest areas surrounding Chamarajanagar.
