According to Polimer News, the Tamil Nadu government has unveiled its agricultural budget for the 2026-2027 fiscal year, outlining several key financial commitments aimed at supporting the state's farming sector. Minister Vinoth, representing the administration, detailed a series of initiatives focused on infrastructure, crop insurance, and climate resilience.

Among the primary announcements, the government reported that 2,509 kilometers of irrigation canals in the delta regions have been desilted at a cost of 10 crore rupees. Additionally, the state has allocated 134 crore rupees for the 'Kuruvai' package scheme, designed to assist farmers during the current cultivation season. The budget also includes a significant provision of 648 crore rupees for the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana, the central government's crop insurance program, aimed at providing comprehensive coverage for 8.26 lakh acres of Kuruvai paddy cultivation.

Beyond immediate financial support, the government addressed long-term climate concerns. Minister Vinoth highlighted projections indicating that 12 districts in the state may face significant agricultural challenges due to the impact of El Niño. These measures are part of the state's broader strategy to stabilize agricultural output and mitigate risks for farmers in the face of changing weather patterns and infrastructure needs.
