According to Polimer News, a significant theft occurred on the Ananthapuri Express, involving diamond jewelry valued at approximately 30 million rupees. The victim, identified as a supervisor for a jewelry store in T. Nagar, Chennai, was returning from a business trip to Madurai where he had been collecting orders for sample jewelry.

The supervisor, Deepak Sancheti, reported that he had placed his shoulder bag—containing the diamond samples and an Apple Watch—on his berth in a first-class carriage. He discovered the items missing around 5:00 AM after returning from the train's restroom. The incident has since been reported to the Egmore Railway Police, who have launched an investigation into the matter.

Authorities have initiated a search operation based on digital evidence, noting that the stolen Apple Watch last transmitted a location signal near the Srirangam area. A special police team has been dispatched to the region to conduct further inquiries and attempt to recover the stolen property. The investigation is currently ongoing as police review passenger manifests and potential surveillance footage from the transit route.
