According to a report by Sambad, approximately 1,517 construction workers in the Nabarangpur district of Odisha are currently unable to access state-sponsored welfare benefits due to a lapse in their registration status. The workers, who have reportedly been visiting the District Labour Office for the past five years, are unable to complete the mandatory re-registration process required to qualify for government schemes.

The delay is attributed to a long-standing vacancy in the position of District Labour Commissioner in Nabarangpur. Without an official in place to approve the documentation, the affected laborers remain in administrative limbo, unable to secure the benefits intended for their families. The issue highlights a significant gap in service delivery for the district's registered workforce.

Data indicates that since 2009, over 128,000 construction workers were registered across ten blocks and two urban areas in the district. The current administrative bottleneck prevents these individuals from receiving support, including potential assistance for elderly workers and families of deceased laborers. Local authorities have yet to provide a timeline for filling the vacant post or resolving the backlog of applications.
