Privacy Policy

This policy explains what information NoorNews (https://news.noorapp.app) collects when you visit or use this site, how we use it, and the choices you have. We publish news and run AI-assisted fact-checking — this policy covers the site itself, not the reporting methodology (see About for that).

Information we collect

Information you provide

If you sign in with Google to vote or comment on a Community Debate topic, we receive your name, email address, and profile photo from Google via our authentication provider, Supabase. Your display name and photo are shown publicly next to any comment or vote you post — treat them as public, not private.

Content you submit — debate votes (agree/disagree) and comment text — is stored and displayed publicly on the relevant topic page.

Information collected automatically

Our hosting provider, Vercel, processes standard web request data to serve pages to you — IP address, browser/device type, pages requested, and timestamps. We use this for security, abuse prevention, and diagnosing outages, not to build advertising profiles, and we do not sell it.

Google Search Console gives us aggregate data about how NoorNews appears in Google Search — impressions, clicks, and search queries. This is aggregated by Google; we do not see it tied to your individual identity.

Cookies & local storage

• A first-party cookie (noornews_lang) remembers your language choice (English/Malayalam) for up to one year.
• Your dark/light theme preference is stored in your browser's local storage, not a cookie, and never leaves your device.
• Signing in sets a Supabase authentication session cookie, so you stay signed in between visits.

We do not use third-party advertising or cross-site tracking cookies.

How we use this information

• To operate, secure, and maintain the site
• To remember your language and theme preferences
• To let you vote and comment on Community Debate topics if you sign in
• To moderate submitted comments — every comment is screened by an automated system before it can appear, and may also be reviewed or removed by us
• To respond to correction requests, tips, or emails you send us
• To understand aggregate search performance and improve the site

Third parties we work with

• Google — sign-in (OAuth) if you choose to use it, and Search Console for aggregate search performance data.
• Supabase — our database, authentication, and file-storage provider. Account data, comments, votes, and published story content are hosted there.
• Vercel — our hosting and content-delivery provider, processing standard request data to serve pages.
• Pexels, Pixabay & Wikimedia Commons — sources of licensed photography we use to illustrate stories. We request images from these providers server-side as part of publishing a story; this does not involve sharing your personal data with them.
• IndexNow (Bing, Yandex, Seznam, Naver)— notified automatically when we publish a new story so it can be indexed faster. Only the story's URL is sent — no personal data.

Your rights

You can ask us to access, correct, or delete the personal account data we hold about you by emailing contact@noorapp.app. Since comments and votes are part of the public discussion record on a news site, we handle removal requests for already-posted content case by case — email us and we will work with you.

Children's privacy

NoorNews is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, contact us and we will remove it.

Data retention

Published stories, comments, and votes are retained as part of the permanent public news archive, the same way a newspaper keeps its back issues. Account and session data is retained while your account is active and deleted upon request or extended inactivity.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. The "Last updated" date at the top reflects the most recent revision. Continued use of the site after a change means you accept the updated policy.
