Aadhaar authentication mandatory for subsidised LPG refills from October 1

According to reports from Kalinga TV, the Indian Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas has announced that Biometric Aadhaar Authentication (BAA) will become a mandatory requirement for domestic LPG consumers starting October 1, 2026. This policy aims to streamline the distribution of subsidized LPG refills by ensuring that only verified account holders can access regulated retail prices.

Official data indicates that the transition is already well underway, with approximately 27.43 crore active consumers—representing 89.9 percent of the total user base—having already completed the biometric authentication process. The move is part of a broader government initiative to enhance transparency and reduce leakages in the delivery of essential subsidies across the country.

Consumers who have not yet linked their Aadhaar biometrics are encouraged to complete the process before the deadline to ensure uninterrupted access to subsidized refills. The Ministry continues to monitor the progress of the rollout as it works toward full digital integration of the domestic cooking gas supply chain.
