Air India Express IX 415 shuts engine 1 after oil drop at 36,000 ft; lands overweight at Cochin

According to the Times of Oman, an Air India Express Boeing 737 operating flight IX 415 from Cochin to Abu Dhabi was forced to return to its departure airport shortly after takeoff. The flight crew reportedly detected a technical issue involving a drop in oil pressure in one of the aircraft's engines while at an altitude of 36,000 feet.

As a precautionary measure, the pilots initiated a shutdown of the affected engine and requested an emergency landing back at Cochin International Airport. The aircraft landed safely, though it was reported to be above its standard landing weight limit due to the fuel remaining on board from the aborted flight.

Ground crews and emergency services were placed on standby as the aircraft touched down. No injuries were reported among the passengers or crew, and the airline is expected to conduct a full technical inspection of the engine to determine the cause of the oil pressure drop. Passengers were provided with alternative travel arrangements following the incident.
