Assam: Rhino Horn Smuggler Arrested in Biswanath, Another Escapes

According to Pratidin Time, police in the Behali area of Assam’s Biswanath district have arrested an individual suspected of involvement in wildlife trafficking. The operation, which took place on Monday, resulted in the seizure of a rhino horn that was allegedly in the possession of the suspect.

Authorities launched the operation following a specific tip-off received by the Biswanath superintendent of police. The suspect was intercepted by officers while traveling along National Highway 15. While one individual was taken into custody, reports indicate that a second suspect managed to evade capture and remains at large.

Rhino poaching remains a significant concern for wildlife conservationists in Assam, which is home to the world's largest population of one-horned rhinoceroses. Law enforcement agencies in the state frequently conduct patrols and intelligence-led operations to disrupt the illegal trade of wildlife products. The arrested individual is currently being processed by local authorities as the investigation into the smuggling network continues.
