According to reports from Dainik Bhaskar, heavy monsoon rains and subsequent landslides have forced the suspension of the Amarnath Yatra from Jammu. Authorities have warned that the Jammu region remains at high risk for severe flooding and further landslides through August 11, prompting officials to halt the pilgrimage as a precautionary measure to ensure the safety of travelers.

In the national capital, Delhi and the surrounding NCR region experienced intense rainfall on Friday, leading to significant urban flooding. Major arterial roads, including the highway connecting Delhi and Gurugram, saw water levels reach up to four feet, resulting in widespread vehicle breakdowns and severe traffic congestion. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for the capital, noting that the first week of August has already recorded 127 millimeters of rain, marking the highest levels for this period since 2011.

Further impacts are being felt across Uttar Pradesh and Bihar, where rising river levels have caused extensive damage. In Varanasi, the rising waters of the Ganges have submerged several ghats and breached the premises of numerous small temples. Meanwhile, in Bihar’s Bagaha district, the Gandak River has inundated approximately 300 homes, necessitating the evacuation of residents to safer locations. Local authorities are continuing to monitor the situation as monsoon clouds persist over the northern states.
