Boy killed in landslide in Kupwara

A seven-year-old boy, identified as Rehan Ahmad Dar, died on Saturday following a landslide in the Kupwara district of Jammu and Kashmir. The incident occurred in the Mawer area of Handwara, where the child was struck while near his school. Despite being rushed to a nearby hospital for emergency treatment, medical personnel declared him brought dead upon arrival.

The tragedy has prompted an outpouring of condolences from local officials. Sakina Itoo, the Minister for Education, addressed the incident in a public statement posted to social media, expressing her deep sorrow over the loss of the young student. She extended her sympathies to the family of the victim, who was a nursery student at the Frontline Model School in Mawer.

Landslides remain a significant seasonal hazard in the mountainous regions of north Kashmir, particularly during periods of heavy rainfall or unstable weather conditions. Local authorities have frequently urged residents to exercise caution in areas prone to geological instability.
