Building permits issued in Saudi Arabia surge 16% in July

According to the latest report from the General Authority for Statistics (GASTAT), the number of building permits issued in Saudi Arabia saw a significant increase in July 2026. The data indicates that 5,828 permits were issued throughout the month, representing a 16 percent rise compared to the 5,045 permits recorded in June 2026. This figure also reflects a 4 percent growth on a year-on-year basis when compared to the 5,582 permits issued in July 2025.

The report further highlights trends in the construction sector, noting that the construction cost index rose by 2.3 percent during July 2026 compared to the same period in the previous year. This upward movement in costs was driven primarily by a 2.2 percent increase in the residential sector and a 2.6 percent rise in non-residential construction costs. In June 2026, the number of permits issued stood at 5,045, which was a 20.3 percent increase compared to June 2025.
