Following a fatal building collapse in the Satya Niketan area of New Delhi, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has ordered a comprehensive safety inspection of buildings across the capital. According to reports from Dainik Bhaskar, the MCD has directed executive engineers from all zones to conduct thorough site visits and submit their findings by September 10. The data collected during this drive will be incorporated into an affidavit to be filed before the Delhi High Court ahead of a scheduled hearing on September 25.

The directive comes in the wake of a tragic incident on Sunday where a five-story building collapsed, resulting in seven deaths and at least six injuries. In response to the disaster, local authorities have moved quickly to initiate legal action. Police have confirmed the arrest of the property owner, Urmila Gupta, along with her husband Hari Ram Gupta and their son Mahesh Gupta. The trio is currently being held in 14-day police custody as the investigation into the structural integrity and management of the property continues.

Data released by the MCD suggests that a prior survey conducted earlier this year covered over 2.78 million buildings in the city, of which only 19 were identified as dangerous. This low figure is now under intense scrutiny as officials work to determine if the current inspection protocols are sufficient to prevent future tragedies. The upcoming court filing is expected to provide further clarity on the city's broader strategy for addressing aging and potentially hazardous infrastructure.
