According to Polimer News, a significant dispute over land and infrastructure development has emerged in Vadathorasalur, located in the Kallakurichi district of Tamil Nadu. A local woman, identified as Selvi, has publicly expressed distress following the removal of over 100 trees on her property to make way for a state-sanctioned electrical transmission project.

Selvi, who had been cultivating the land for over a decade, reportedly maintained a variety of crops, including mango, teak, and papaya trees. According to the report, she had previously voiced opposition to the project, arguing that the transmission line route would negatively impact her agricultural livelihood. She alleges that the trees were cleared with police assistance without her formal consent, leading to a public display of grief that has drawn local attention.

Land acquisition for public infrastructure projects frequently leads to friction between local landowners and government authorities in India. While the transmission project is intended to bolster regional electrical infrastructure, the incident highlights the ongoing challenges faced by small-scale farmers when their land is repurposed for state development.
