According to NTV Telugu, the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB) has imposed a fine of ₹20,000 on a resident in the Jubilee Hills area for the misuse of drinking water. Officials reportedly conducted an inspection at a property on Road No. 23, where they discovered that the resident was using treated drinking water for cleaning floors and outdoor areas.

This enforcement action comes as the city and surrounding regions face heightened pressure on water resources. Authorities have been increasingly vocal about the need for conservation, citing the impact of climate patterns such as El Niño, which have contributed to water scarcity concerns. The HMWSSB has previously issued warnings that the use of drinking water for non-essential purposes—such as washing vehicles, cleaning floors, or gardening—is a violation of municipal regulations.

In addition to the fine, the water board has encouraged citizens to report instances of water wastage through their official WhatsApp channels. The board maintains that such measures are necessary to ensure equitable distribution of water to all households during the summer months. Residents are advised to use alternative sources, such as recycled or borewell water, for non-potable cleaning tasks to avoid further penalties.
