According to the Odia news outlet Dharitri, Ram Meher, a distinguished handloom artisan from Jhiliminda village in the Atabira block of Bargarh district, has been honored with the prestigious Sant Kabir Handloom Award for 2025. The award, which is one of India's highest national honors for excellence in the handloom sector, was presented to recognize his significant contributions to the craft.

The ceremony took place on Friday at the Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi, where President Droupadi Murmu conferred the honor upon Meher. The recognition serves as a moment of pride for the Bargarh district, highlighting the cultural and economic importance of traditional weaving practices in the region.

Ram Meher has dedicated approximately 55 years to the handloom industry, preserving traditional techniques and supporting the local textile economy. The Sant Kabir Handloom Award is granted by the Ministry of Textiles to outstanding weavers who have demonstrated exceptional skill and innovation in their work, contributing to the preservation of India's rich handloom heritage.
