According to Polimer News, thousands of fish have been found dead in the Kaveri River near the Amma Mandapam area in Trichy, causing a severe stench in the vicinity. The incident has caused significant distress to local residents and devotees who visit the river for ritual bathing and religious observances.

Local reports suggest that the mass mortality of the fish may be linked to the extreme heatwave conditions currently affecting Trichy. The intense temperatures have led to a decrease in the river's water levels, which in turn may have caused the water temperature to rise to levels that the aquatic life could not withstand.

In response to the situation, local social activists and members of the public have formally requested that the Fisheries Department and the Pollution Control Board intervene. They are calling for the immediate removal of the dead fish and a thorough cleaning of the riverbanks to restore hygiene and safety for the public. As of now, authorities have been urged to investigate the exact cause of the die-off to prevent further environmental impact.
