According to reports from the regional news outlet Sambad, authorities in the Kandhamal district of Odisha have ordered an indefinite closure of the Kalinga Ghati road following severe landslides triggered by persistent rainfall. The decision was made after a significant rockfall occurred near the Andharkot area, where road expansion work was currently underway.

District officials had previously closed the route on September 23 and 24 as a precautionary measure due to the high risk of instability in the region. The recent collapse of the under-construction road section has prompted a total ban on vehicular movement to ensure public safety. Local authorities are currently assessing the structural integrity of the remaining road segments.

This incident highlights the ongoing vulnerability of the Kalinga Ghati transport corridor to monsoon-related damage. Similar landslides in the past have led to prolonged closures, significantly impacting connectivity in the region.
