According to Vijayavani, the MIT Pharmacy College in Mysore organized an awareness event on Tuesday to mark World Hepatitis Day. The program, held on the college campus, aimed to educate the public on the prevention and early detection of hepatitis, following the global theme 'Hepatitis: Let's know, let's understand, let's prevent.'

During the event, hepatology expert Dr. A.K. Satish Rao addressed the attendees, highlighting that viral hepatitis is a primary cause of chronic liver disease, cirrhosis, and cancer. Dr. Rao emphasized that the rising trend of alcohol consumption among the youth is a significant factor contributing to liver ailments. He urged the public to prioritize timely medical screenings and vaccinations to mitigate these health risks.

Other speakers at the event included Dr. N.V. Krishnamurthy, principal of the Ayurvedic Medical Science Institute, who advocated for a balanced diet and a disciplined lifestyle as essential components for maintaining liver health. Dr. Y.T. Krishna Gowda, secretary of MITM, inaugurated the program and stated that creating health awareness among the public is a key social responsibility for educational institutions. The event concluded with a discussion on the global burden of the disease, noting that millions of people worldwide are currently affected by hepatitis.
