According to Vartha Bharati, Karnataka's newly appointed Minister for Water Resources, N. Chaluvaraya Swamy, has directed officials to accelerate the legal and technical processes required for the Mekedatu dam project. During his first meeting with senior department officials following his assumption of office, the minister emphasized the necessity of securing pending clearances from various central government departments.

The Mekedatu project is a significant infrastructure initiative aimed at providing a permanent source of drinking water to Bengaluru and its surrounding regions. Minister Swamy reviewed the current status of the project, including the Detailed Project Report (DPR), land acquisition procedures, and environmental and forest clearance requirements. He stressed that the state government remains committed to advancing the project while ensuring all technical and legal regulations are strictly followed.

During the briefing, officials provided updates on the challenges facing the project and the strategic roadmap for future implementation. The minister underscored that the project is vital for the state's water security and instructed the administration to prioritize the coordination required to protect the state's interests throughout the approval process. No timeline for the completion of these clearances was specified in the initial briefing.
