According to reports from Dainik Bhaskar, a fire broke out in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) of the District Women's Hospital in Amravati, Maharashtra, early Monday morning. The incident, which occurred at approximately 3:30 AM, resulted in the deaths of three newborns. At the time of the blaze, 39 infants were reportedly admitted to the unit.

Amravati Police Commissioner Rakesh Ola stated that the fire originated in one of the three compartments within the NICU. Hospital staff, including doctors and nurses, initiated an immediate rescue operation to evacuate the infants. While several children were successfully moved to safety, three succumbed to the fire, and six others were transferred to alternative medical facilities for urgent care. The current condition of the surviving transferred infants remains under assessment.

Preliminary investigations by local authorities suggest that the fire may have been triggered by an explosion within a ventilator machine located in the NICU. Officials are currently conducting a thorough investigation to determine the precise cause of the malfunction and the subsequent fire. This incident follows a similar report from a hospital in Chhindwara, Madhya Pradesh, where a fire in a warmer machine reportedly claimed the life of an infant just two days prior.
