Pakistani forces kill Taliban fighters in ongoing border escalation

According to the Saudi Gazette, Pakistani security officials have reported an ongoing exchange of fire with Afghan Taliban fighters in the Gulistan border region. The skirmish, which began on Friday, follows a series of aerial operations conducted by Pakistan in response to what officials described as a deliberate drone incursion into their territory earlier in the week.

The Afghan government has disputed the nature of these operations, alleging that a wave of Pakistani air strikes resulted in the deaths of four civilians. Reports indicate that these strikes targeted areas including Kandahar, a significant power base for the Taliban. Local residents have described hearing jet activity followed by explosions and subsequent fires in the vicinity.

Pakistan’s Information Minister, Attaullah Tarar, stated that the military action was strictly limited to identified terrorist hideouts and military objectives. This escalation marks a period of heightened tension between Islamabad and the Taliban-led government in Kabul. As the situation remains fluid, both sides continue to trade accusations regarding the security of the border and the presence of militant groups in the region.
