Saudi Arabia to develop over 14 GW of computing capacity to accelerate AI growth

Saudi Arabia is embarking on an ambitious plan to develop over 14 gigawatts of computing capacity to bolster its artificial intelligence sector, according to Minister of Communications and Information Technology Abdullah Al-Swaha. The announcement was made during the opening of the fourth Frontier Leaders Forum 2026, held in Silicon Valley, California. The initiative is part of a broader strategy to position the Kingdom as a global hub for AI development by providing companies with essential infrastructure, capital, and market access.

Minister Al-Swaha emphasized that the Kingdom’s model for growth is built on three pillars: securing robust computing power, facilitating investment, and connecting AI firms with a diverse customer base. He highlighted the success of this approach by citing the company Groq, which received early support from Saudi Arabia through strategic investments and assistance in scaling its operations by connecting it with major clients. This model is intended to be replicated to attract further innovation and international technology partnerships.

The Frontier Leaders Forum, themed 'AI Forward: A Global Frontier,' gathered prominent figures from the global technology, venture capital, and innovation sectors. By hosting and participating in such high-level discussions in Silicon Valley, Saudi officials aim to integrate the Kingdom more deeply into the global AI ecosystem. The move reflects Saudi Arabia's ongoing efforts to diversify its economy away from oil dependency, focusing heavily on digital transformation and emerging technologies as key drivers of future economic growth.
