Saudi customs authorities at King Fahd International Airport in Dammam have successfully intercepted a major smuggling attempt involving 40,000 amphetamine pills. The illicit cargo was discovered concealed within a shipment of glass cups contained in a postal parcel arriving in the Kingdom.
According to Zakat, Tax and Customs Authority (ZATCA) spokesman Hamoud Al-Harbi, the parcel was flagged during routine customs procedures. Security technology and advanced detection methods were utilized to identify the narcotics hidden inside the glassware. Following the discovery, ZATCA coordinated with the General Directorate of Narcotics Control to track the shipment to its intended destination.
As a result of the operation, two individuals were arrested in connection with the attempted smuggling. Al-Harbi stated that the authority remains committed to tightening customs controls across all ports of entry to protect society and ensure national security. The operation highlights the ongoing cooperation between ZATCA and the Ministry of Interior in their efforts to combat drug trafficking within Saudi Arabia.
The story reports on an official announcement from the Zakat, Tax and Customs Authority (ZATCA), which is the primary government agency responsible for such enforcement in Saudi Arabia. As an official government-linked report, it meets the criteria for high-confidence verification.
