According to reports from TV9 Bharatvarsh, an Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) identified as Gurdyal Singh, who was stationed with the 112 emergency response service in Ferozepur, has allegedly jumped into a canal following intense harassment. The incident is reportedly linked to his wife’s recent participation in local elections, which triggered a campaign of blackmail and extortion against the officer.

Family members and investigators indicate that the officer was being pressured for a sum of 35 lakh rupees by local individuals who opposed his wife’s political candidacy. The persistent extortion demands reportedly created significant distress for the officer, ultimately leading to the drastic step. The case has drawn local attention due to the involvement of a law enforcement official as the victim of criminal intimidation.

Following the incident, local police have initiated a formal investigation into the matter. Based on video evidence and complaints filed by the family, authorities have registered a First Information Report (FIR) against seven individuals suspected of being involved in the blackmail scheme. The investigation is ongoing as police work to verify the details of the extortion claims and the circumstances leading up to the officer's actions.
