According to a report by Asomiya Pratidin, residents and members of the Barhampur constituency coordination committee have expressed significant dissatisfaction regarding the proposed location for the new district administrative headquarters. The committee is actively lobbying for the headquarters to be established within the Barhampur constituency, arguing that its central location makes it the most suitable site for administrative operations.

During a press conference held on Tuesday in Barhampur, representatives of the coordination committee formally requested that local MLA Jitu Goswami and Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma intervene to ensure the headquarters is situated in Barhampur. The current debate involves competing claims from various areas within the constituency, including Kathiatoli and Kampur, which have also been suggested as potential sites for the administrative hub.

This dispute follows a public meeting convened by MLA Jitu Goswami on September 6 at the Nonoi Bareganya temple, where he sought to address the conflicting demands from different parts of the constituency. The ongoing tension highlights the logistical and political challenges of administrative reorganization in the region, as local leaders continue to press for infrastructure development that aligns with their specific community interests.
