Customs foil attempt to smuggle 18,549 amphetamine pills at Dammam airport

Saudi customs authorities at King Fahd International Airport in Dammam have successfully intercepted a major smuggling attempt involving 18,549 amphetamine pills. According to the Zakat, Tax and Customs Authority (ZATCA), the illicit shipment was discovered concealed within a postal parcel as it arrived at the Kingdom's entry point. The discovery was made possible through the use of advanced security screening technologies and specialized detection methods employed by customs officers.

Following the identification of the contraband, ZATCA initiated a coordinated operation with the General Directorate of Narcotics Control (GDNC). This collaboration allowed authorities to track the shipment to its intended recipients, leading to the arrest of four individuals connected to the smuggling attempt. The suspects are now in custody and are expected to face legal proceedings in accordance with Saudi law.

ZATCA spokesperson Hamoud Al-Harbi emphasized that the authority remains committed to maintaining rigorous customs controls at all land, sea, and air ports of entry. These efforts are part of a broader national strategy, conducted in partnership with the Ministry of Interior and the GDNC, to curb the flow of narcotics into the country and ensure public safety. The authority has also reiterated its call for the public to remain vigilant and report any suspected smuggling activities through official security channels.
