Heavy rain, flash flood risk forecast across parts of Saudi Arabia through Friday

The Saudi National Center for Meteorology (NCM) has issued a formal weather advisory warning of heavy rainfall and potential flash floods across several regions of the Kingdom. The alert, which remains in effect through Friday, highlights the risk of varying intensity storms that could impact daily life and travel in the affected areas.

According to the NCM, heavy rainfall is expected to reach between 10 and 50 mm per hour, potentially accompanied by hazardous conditions including downdraft winds exceeding 60 km/h, near-zero horizontal visibility, and the formation of hail. Authorities have specifically cautioned residents in Jazan, Asir, and Al-Baha to remain vigilant, as these regions are expected to experience the most significant weather activity. In Jazan, the warning covers a wide range of localities including Al-Rayth, Harub, Al-Dayer, and Fayfa, while in Asir, areas such as Abha and Khamis Mushait are under observation.

The meteorological agency further noted that moderate rainfall, ranging from 5 to 9 mm per hour, may also trigger flash floods and reduced visibility due to high winds. Coastal areas have been warned of high waves, and the NCM has not ruled out the possibility of tornadoes or waterspouts in the most volatile zones. Residents are urged to follow official updates from the NCM and local civil defense authorities, avoid low-lying areas prone to flooding, and exercise extreme caution while driving during the storm period.
