According to a report by Dainik Bhaskar, a second-year student at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay was found dead in his hostel room on Friday evening. The student, who was enrolled in the Department of Energy Science and Engineering, reportedly died by suicide shortly after the conclusion of his examinations.

Preliminary reports from the outlet suggest that the student had been accused of using ChatGPT to complete a portion of his exam earlier that day. While the report claims that no formal disciplinary action had been taken against the student at the time of his death, the incident has reportedly sparked demonstrations among the student body on campus. The student's body has been transferred to Rajawadi Hospital for a post-mortem examination.

This incident marks the third reported case of suicide at the IIT Bombay campus within a seven-month period, raising significant concerns regarding student mental health and academic pressure. Local authorities are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the death. As of now, the administration of IIT Bombay has not released an official statement confirming the specific details regarding the examination dispute or the nature of the protests.
