Iraq removes Maysan operations commander after attacks on Saudi Arabia

According to the Saudi Gazette, Iraqi Prime Minister and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces Ali Al-Zaidi has ordered the removal of the commander of the Maysan Operations Command. This decision follows an investigation by Iraqi authorities, which determined that recent attacks targeting Saudi Arabia were launched from within the southern Iraqi province of Maysan.

In addition to the commander's removal, Al-Zaidi has directed the formation of an investigative council to further examine the security breach within the Maysan Operations Command. Sabah Al-Numan, spokesperson for the commander-in-chief of the Iraqi Armed Forces, confirmed the administrative actions, emphasizing that the government is taking urgent steps to identify those responsible for the security violations.

The Iraqi government has issued a formal statement condemning the attacks, asserting its commitment to the security and stability of Saudi Arabia. Baghdad expressed its desire to maintain strong bilateral relations and welcomed Saudi Arabia’s willingness to cooperate in containing the situation.
