According to the Saudi Gazette, the Saudi Arabian Ministry of Municipalities and Housing has reported a significant surge in civic engagement, recording over three million volunteer hours during the first half of 2026. The data indicates that approximately 179,000 volunteers participated in 6,700 distinct opportunities facilitated by municipal authorities and housing entities, often in collaboration with various nonprofit organizations.

The volunteer initiatives spanned a wide range of public services, including the maintenance of parks and public facilities, support for housing services, infrastructure monitoring, and specialized assistance for pilgrims. These efforts reflect a broader national strategy to integrate community participation into the management of urban landscapes and public sector operations.

This latest report follows a productive 2025, during which the sector engaged over 300,000 volunteers in projects ranging from urban improvement and food preservation to the dignified care of the deceased.
