Saudi Arabia condemns Colombia’s recognition of Israel’s sovereignty over Occupied Syrian Golan Heights

The Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs has issued a formal statement expressing the Kingdom's strong condemnation of the Colombian government's decision to recognize Israeli sovereignty over the occupied Syrian Golan Heights. Riyadh characterized the move as a direct violation of international law and established resolutions regarding the status of the territory.

In its statement, the Ministry emphasized that the recognition explicitly contravenes United Nations Security Council Resolution 497, which was adopted in 1981. That resolution declared Israel's imposition of its laws, jurisdiction, and administration over the Golan Heights to be null and void and without international legal effect. Saudi officials argued that such actions by foreign governments undermine the long-standing international consensus on the status of the region.

Furthermore, the Kingdom warned that this diplomatic shift does not contribute to the pursuit of regional peace. Instead, the Ministry stated that the move reinforces the logic of imposing faits accomplis and serves to hinder broader international efforts aimed at achieving a lasting resolution to regional conflicts. The Saudi government reiterated its commitment to the established international framework regarding the occupied Syrian Golan Heights.
