Saudi Arabia highlights AI, global cooperation in geospatial information management at UN meeting

According to the Saudi Gazette, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia participated in the 16th meeting of the United Nations Committee of Experts on Global Geospatial Information Management held in New York. The Saudi delegation was led by Mohammed Al-Sayel, President of the General Authority for Survey and Geospatial Information (GEOSA).

During the proceedings, Al-Sayel emphasized the critical role of international cooperation and the integration of emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence, to enhance global geospatial data management. The discussions focused on how these tools can better support sustainable development goals and provide a more robust framework for land management and hydrographic data.

The Saudi delegation also reviewed the Kingdom's progress in implementing the United Nations Integrated Geospatial Information Framework. This framework is designed to help countries effectively manage geospatial information, which is increasingly vital for urban planning, environmental monitoring, and statistical analysis. The meeting serves as a platform for member states to align their national strategies with global standards for data accuracy and accessibility.
