Saudi Arabia, Kuwait strengthen cooperation in combating desertification and restoring lands

According to the Saudi Gazette, the National Center for Vegetation Cover Development and Combating Desertification has launched a series of specialized training workshops in collaboration with Kuwait's Environment Public Authority. The initiative, spanning September and October 2026, is part of a broader memorandum of understanding between the two nations focused on environmental protection, rehabilitation, and the conservation of natural ecosystems.

The program consists of five technical workshops designed to address the challenges of desertification and land degradation. Experts from both countries are working to develop unified policies and strategies aimed at sustainable land management. Key topics of the sessions include the implementation of green belts to mitigate sand encroachment and the sharing of Saudi Arabia’s experience in the integrated management of invasive plant species.

This cooperation highlights the ongoing commitment of both Riyadh and Kuwait to regional environmental sustainability. By focusing on technical knowledge exchange and policy alignment, the initiative seeks to enhance the resilience of local ecosystems against the impacts of climate change and land degradation.
