Saudi Border Guard seizes 140 kg of khat, nearly 140,000 tablets

According to the Saudi Gazette, the Saudi Border Guard has successfully conducted a series of operations in the Jazan and Asir regions, resulting in the arrest of seven individuals and the seizure of significant quantities of narcotics. The operations targeted border security violators attempting to smuggle contraband into the Kingdom.

In the Al-Daer Sector of the Jazan region, patrols apprehended five individuals of Ethiopian and Yemeni nationalities. Authorities reported the seizure of 100 kilograms of khat, a stimulant plant, alongside a separate operation in the same sector that intercepted 139,950 tablets subject to medical circulation regulations. Additionally, in the Al-Raboua Sector of the Asir region, two Ethiopian nationals were taken into custody after patrols discovered 40 kilograms of khat in their possession.

These seizures are part of ongoing efforts by Saudi security forces to curb the smuggling of illicit substances across the country's southern borders. The suspects have been processed according to local legal procedures, and the confiscated materials have been handed over to the relevant authorities for further investigation and disposal. Such operations remain a central component of Saudi Arabia’s broader strategy to maintain border integrity and combat the regional drug trade.
