According to Vijayavani, the taluk administration of Ponnampet and Virajpet, in collaboration with various departments including the Social Welfare and Education departments, hosted a commemorative event for International Democracy Day at the Samarthya Soudha hall in Ponnampet.

The event was inaugurated by Cheppudira Arun Machaiah, Vice President of the Karnataka Sports Authority, who paid floral tributes to the portrait of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar. In his address, Machaiah emphasized that upholding the values of the Constitution is a fundamental duty of every citizen in India, which he described as the world's largest democracy. He highlighted Dr. Ambedkar's extensive study of global constitutions in drafting a framework suitable for India's diverse religious, linguistic, and social landscape.

The speakers at the event also expressed concerns regarding the current political and electoral climate. They noted a perceived decline in values within the system, specifically highlighting the growing influence of financial power over public service, which they argued poses a challenge to the democratic ideals envisioned by the architects of the Indian Constitution.
