Suicide bomber strikes peace rally in Pakistan, killing at least 14

At least 14 people were killed and nearly two dozen others injured after a suicide bomber targeted a peace rally in the town of Kabal, located in Pakistan's Swat Valley, on Sunday evening. According to reports from the Saudi Gazette and other regional sources, the attack occurred as demonstrators gathered near a local police station to voice their opposition to militancy and demand greater security in the region.

District police chief Omar Khan stated that the bomber, identified as Umar, detonated his explosives when police personnel attempted to stop and search him at the entrance of the police station. Witnesses at the scene reported that the rally had been peaceful, with speakers criticizing the state's failure to curb the resurgence of violence that has long plagued the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province. The protesters had been calling for an environment where residents could live without the constant threat of militant activity.

This incident marks a significant escalation in violence within the region, which has struggled with instability for years. The attack has drawn widespread condemnation, highlighting the ongoing security challenges facing local authorities in northwestern Pakistan. As of now, investigations into the bomber's affiliations and the security lapse at the rally site are ongoing, with officials working to stabilize the area and provide medical assistance to the survivors.
