3 die, 5 injured in lightning strikes in Odisha

According to Kalinga TV, at least three people have died and five others have sustained critical injuries following lightning strikes across three separate locations in the Indian state of Odisha. The incidents occurred during localized weather disturbances that impacted multiple rural communities.

In the first reported incident, a farmer identified as Matae Marij was killed when lightning struck a group in Nathapasi village. Three other individuals, including a minor girl, were injured in the same event and were subsequently transported to local medical facilities for treatment. Authorities have not yet released the identities of the other two deceased individuals or the specific locations of the remaining two incidents.

Lightning strikes are a recurring seasonal hazard in Odisha, particularly during the pre-monsoon and monsoon months. The state government frequently issues safety advisories urging residents to seek shelter in concrete structures during thunderstorms and to avoid open fields or tall trees.
