According to reports from Dainik Bhaskar, a violent confrontation erupted in Ambala, Haryana, on Thursday evening between police forces and a group of Sikh protesters and farmers. The demonstrators had been blocking the Delhi-Chandigarh National Highway since 1:00 PM, demanding the release of individuals arrested in connection with an attack on Punjab-based anti-Khalistan leader Gursimran Singh Mand, which occurred six days prior.

The situation escalated late in the evening when local police attempted to clear the highway to restore traffic flow. During the ensuing clash, a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) identified as Virender reportedly suffered a severe injury, resulting in the loss of a thumb. Authorities stated that six to seven other police personnel sustained serious injuries and were subsequently admitted to the intensive care unit of a local hospital. Several protesters were also reported injured during the confrontation.

To disperse the crowd, police utilized lathi-charge tactics and fired tear gas shells. Prior to the escalation, protesters had demanded that an FIR be registered against Gursimran Singh Mand and that their two associates currently in custody be released. While police did register an FIR against Mand, the protesters remained firm in their demand for the release of the detained individuals. Ambala Superintendent of Police Ajit Singh Shekhawat confirmed that police successfully cleared the highway and restored traffic late Thursday night.
