According to Polimer News, a significant theft occurred aboard the Ananthapuri Express, involving diamond jewelry valued at approximately 30 million rupees. The victim, identified as Deepak Sancheti, a supervisor at Mani Jewellers in T. Nagar, Chennai, was traveling back from Madurai after showcasing sample jewelry to local retailers.

Sancheti reported that the theft took place in the early hours of the morning while he was traveling in a first-class carriage. He stated that he had placed his shoulder bag, which contained the diamond jewelry and an Apple Watch, on his berth before briefly stepping away to use the restroom. Upon his return, he discovered that the bag was missing.

Following the incident, a formal complaint was lodged with the Egmore Railway Police. Preliminary investigations have been initiated by a special police team, who are currently tracking the location of the stolen Apple Watch. Authorities noted that the device's last recorded location was in the Srirangam area, and investigators have been dispatched to the region to pursue leads and identify the suspects involved in the heist.
