According to Polimer News, residents of Vanavasi, located near Mettur in the Salem district of Tamil Nadu, organized a protest march to demand the closure of a state-run TASMAC liquor outlet situated near a local school. The demonstrators were joined by members of the Communist Party of India (CPI) as they marched toward the facility to voice their concerns regarding the shop's proximity to an educational institution.

The protest escalated when local police deployed barricades to prevent the demonstrators from reaching the site, resulting in a brief scuffle between the authorities and the protesters. The situation was eventually brought under control following intervention by local officials.

Following the confrontation, a delegation including the TASMAC district assistant manager, the local Tehsildar, and the Omalur Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) held discussions with the protesters. The officials engaged in negotiations with the community members to address their grievances, ultimately leading the crowd to disperse peacefully. No further incidents were reported following the conclusion of the talks.
