According to a report by Vijayavani, members of the Madiga Mahasabha taluk unit in Devadurga, Raichur district, held a protest on Thursday to condemn the murder of Dalit leader Bhumananda. The demonstrators submitted a formal memorandum to the local Tehsildar, Chandrashekhar Galige, demanding swift justice and government intervention in the case.

During the protest, taluk convener Ningappa Pujari addressed the gathering, expressing concern over the rising frequency of attacks against Dalit leaders and social activists in the state. He argued that while the government claims to support marginalized communities, the reality on the ground suggests a lack of adequate protection for those advocating for social equality. The protesters called for a high-level investigation into the murder to identify and prosecute all conspirators involved.

In addition to seeking legal action, the group presented a list of demands for the victim's family, including 50 lakh rupees in financial compensation, an allocation of 10 acres of land, and government employment for a family member. Neelakantha Badiger, a member of the guarantee committee, also spoke at the event, urging the police department to prioritize the safety of social activists and requesting that the case be fast-tracked through a special court to ensure the perpetrators are held accountable.
