According to Public TV, residents of Vithalapur village in the Mundaragi taluk of Gadag district, Karnataka, have reported repeated sightings of crocodiles near the Tungabhadra river. The presence of both adult crocodiles and hatchlings near residential areas has caused significant alarm among the local community.

One incident occurred behind the home of a resident identified as Duragappa Swami, where a large crocodile was spotted. While the adult reptile managed to escape into the nearby water body after locals raised an alarm, residents were successful in capturing one of the crocodile hatchlings. The proximity of these animals to human settlements has led to growing concerns regarding public safety in the village.

Local authorities are expected to monitor the situation as the frequency of these sightings increases. Wildlife-human conflicts are a recurring issue in regions adjacent to the Tungabhadra river, particularly during seasons when water levels fluctuate, prompting reptiles to move closer to village outskirts. Residents have been advised to exercise caution when near the riverbanks until the situation is addressed by forest department officials.
