Heavy Rain: ବର୍ଷାପାଣିରେ ଉବୁଟୁବୁ ପିମ୍ପୁଡ଼ିଆ ହାଟ

According to a report by Sambad, the weekly market (haat) in Pimpudia, located in the Sukinda block of Odisha, faced significant disruptions on Tuesday due to heavy rainfall. Persistent rain, which began on Monday night, resulted in waterlogging across the market grounds, which span approximately 50,000 square feet.

The market, which typically operates from 8:00 AM to 8:30 PM and sees peak footfall between 4:30 PM and 7:30 PM, was rendered largely inaccessible to both vendors and customers. Traders arriving from surrounding areas such as Kabatabandha, Shankhachila, Kuakhia, Barabati, and Bhuban were unable to set up their stalls due to the inundated conditions.

Local business owners reported a significant decline in trade activity. Abhimanyu Sahu, a textile merchant, noted that many vendors were unable to display their goods, and food stall operators reported that a large portion of their inventory remained unsold. By 6:30 PM on Tuesday, reports indicated that less than 10 percent of the expected business had been conducted, highlighting the severe impact of the weather on the local economy.
