According to Asomiya Pratidin, authorities in Hojai, Assam, have conducted a major operation against the illegal trade of prohibited Thai Magur fish. During the operation, approximately 600 kilograms of the banned fish were seized from a vehicle traveling from Jagiroad toward Nagaland. The vehicle, identified by license plate NL-07-AA-5900, was intercepted in the Akashiganga area following reports of illegal transport.

Local residents from the Haldiaati area, identified as Hifzur, Arif, and Taj Uddin, were credited with assisting police in detaining the vehicle. Following the seizure, officials from the Fisheries Department, including FDO Nishi Sharma and Field Demonstrator Lakshman Das, oversaw the identification and subsequent destruction of the fish, which were buried in a pit using heavy machinery.

This incident highlights ongoing efforts by local authorities to curb the cultivation and distribution of Thai Magur, a species banned in India due to its invasive nature and potential environmental impact. The report also notes that the investigation into the supply chain is ongoing, following allegations of previous incidents involving the same transport network in the Nagaon district.
