According to a report by Vartha Bharati, the Karkala Rural Police have registered a case of online financial fraud involving the loss of 32.68 lakh rupees. The victim, identified as Lakshman, reportedly fell prey to a fraudulent investment scheme advertised through a social media platform.
Authorities state that the victim encountered a video on Facebook promising high returns on investments. After clicking the link, he was added to a WhatsApp group where unidentified individuals persuaded him to invest in various stocks and initial public offerings (IPOs). Between July 7 and August 4, the victim transferred a total of 32,68,000 rupees in multiple installments to accounts provided by the suspects.
Despite the transfers, the victim never received the promised returns or the return of his principal investment.
