According to reports from Amar Ujala, the 24 spokes featured on the Ashoka Chakra of the Indian national flag hold deep historical and philosophical significance. As India marks Independence Day, interest in the symbolism of the national emblem remains high, with many seeking to understand the meaning behind the design.

The Ashoka Chakra, which appears in navy blue at the center of the white stripe of the tricolor, is a representation of the Dharma Chakra, or the 'Wheel of Law.' The 24 spokes are widely interpreted to represent the 24 hours of the day, symbolizing the constant, unceasing nature of time and the importance of progress. Beyond the temporal aspect, the spokes are also said to represent the 24 virtues or principles of Dharma, which include qualities such as love, courage, patience, peacefulness, and kindness.

This design was officially adopted by the Constituent Assembly of India on July 22, 1947, shortly before the country gained independence. The emblem was inspired by the Lion Capital of Ashoka, an ancient sculpture dating back to the 3rd century BCE.
