India aims to see electric air taxis fly by 2028, testing to gather pace next year

According to the Times of Oman, India is actively working toward the integration of electric air taxis into its urban transport infrastructure, with a target date for initial operations set for 2028. The initiative is part of a broader push to address growing congestion in major metropolitan areas by leveraging emerging aerial mobility technologies.

Testing of these electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) vehicles is expected to accelerate significantly throughout the coming year. Authorities and private stakeholders are currently focusing on establishing the necessary regulatory frameworks, safety protocols, and infrastructure requirements, such as 'vertiports,' to support the transition from concept to commercial viability.
