According to Asomiya Pratidin, Shantiram Basumatary, the former president of the Karbi Anglong District Bodo Sahitya Sabha, passed away on Wednesday morning at the age of 74 following a prolonged illness. A resident of Langhin Chanarijan village, Basumatary was a well-known figure in the region, recognized for his contributions as an educator, writer, and playwright.

Beyond his leadership role in the Bodo Sahitya Sabha, Basumatary served as the former secretary of the Karbi Anglong District Bodo Students' Union and was a member of the central committee of the Bodo Sahitya Sabha. His literary career included the authorship of numerous short stories and plays, and he was also an active participant in local theater productions. Additionally, he served on the jury board for the Bodo language division of the Sahitya Akademi.

Following the announcement of his death, the Karbi Anglong District Bodo Sahitya Sabha and its various primary branches across the region lowered their flags to half-mast as a mark of respect. His passing has been noted as a significant loss to the cultural and literary community of the Karbi Anglong district.
